Domestic Violence is a violent confrontation between family or household members involving physical harm, sexual assault, or reasonable fear of physical harm. Family or household members includ spouses, former spouces, those in (or formerly in) a dating relationship including homosexual couples, adults related by blood or marriage, and those who have a biological, legal-parent child relationship.

Domestic Violence can include physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and spiritual abuse.

Abusive behavior can involve the following:

  • Deprivation of food, sleep and money.
  • Isolation
  • Blocking or restraining someone from leaving.
  • Destruction of victim's possessions.
  • Hair pulling, biting, kicking, pushing, pinching, shoving, hitting, choking, punching, throwing, grabbing or tripping.
  • Playing mind games.
  • Calling names / intimidating / threatening.
  • Intimidation with a weapon.
  • Unwanted touching.
  • Dangerous driving to intimidate.
  • Forced intercourse, which is really rape.
  • Humiliation / Guilt trips.

Not all of these behaviors are crimes, but they are all abusive.
