Second Hand Rose
is a Community Thrift Store offering low-income families access to
free and reduced price clothing, household items, and furniture, along
with retail sales training that helps put people back to work.
store serves the larger community as well. When it opened in December
of 2005, it proved to be an overnight success. Bright, clean,
well-stocked, and smelling like roses, it was as if the Bingen/White
Salmon community had been searching for somewhere to donate their
'lovingly' used, but unneeded, clothing and furnishings.
A recent success story illustrates how the Rose makes a real difference in the lives of our community:
Washington State WorkSource
asked us to provide retail sales training to a 19 year old coming from a
difficult background. She had been living on her own and caring for a
younger brother while still in high school.
In just a few weeks,
she was learning customer service skills, inventory control, and running
the cash register. There were a few bumps in the road, but by
discussing job requirements and job retention, the bumps evened out. She learned to provide service to a diverse group of customers and
become a hard working, competent retail sales clerk.
Second Hand Rose is proud to continue offering a retail sales training program.
