Customer’s Feedback:

Having a short draw length, this is my first compound bow. It was tuned and adjusted at the archery range. After taking a few shots with the bow, the owner said it was one of the most smoothie bows he’d ever shot. This bow is highly recommended for adolescents or women with short draw lengths.

Bear Archery ASG1140R Super Grizzly Black Maple-Red Stripe RH 40

The Super Grizzly is a great all-around bow for the hunter who wants to be able to take down any game, from small game up to large game, and still have enough power to handle the smaller critters like rabbits and squirrels. This bow has been designed with the hunter in mind. It’s not just another “bigger” version of an already popular model.

The Asg1140R comes equipped with a CNC machined aluminum riser that provides excellent strength and durability. The riser is attached to the limb using high-quality stainless steel hardware.

This bow is built on our standard Asg1140R platform, but we’ve added a few extra upgrades to make this one of the best bows available today. We’ve upgraded the cams to our newest cam system, the Asg1140R Cam System. This cam system gives you a smoother pull and better shot consistency. Customer’s Feedback:

A solidly constructed crossbow. Nice camo pattern and looks attractive. Shoots hard—not too hard to cock. It’s a little louder than any of the other crossbows I’ve heard, but not too much. Since the mid-80s, I have shot and hunted with vertical compounds and traditional recurves. Due to some really invasive surgeries and medical problems, I have been using a crossbow. I am also getting older. This crossbow will allow me to get out in the woods and hopefully bring home a few deer. I tried pulling back my 70-pound Bowtech Guardian last month, but it was not working.

It’s best to unmount the scope that came with the bow and throw it in the trash right away. It has poor eye relief and mine was crooked. I could have straightened it out on a bench, but I didn’t want to go through all of that. After trying to zero at twenty with the included scope, I ran out of room. I just wanted to go out hunting, so I upgraded to a better scope. I was able to zero it in about a half hour.

The deer woods will tell us how it does.

FAQs on Best Compound Bow for Budget

Which is better, a recurve or a compound bow?

It’s not so much about which is “better,” but rather which is more suited to your needs. Recurve bows are simpler and often used in traditional archery and the Olympics. Compound bows use a system of pulleys and cams, making them more technical and often easier to hold at full draw. For beginners, the choice might come down to preference, intended use, and budget.
What is a compound bow good for?

A compound bow is great for target shooting, bowhunting, and 3D archery due to its accuracy, power, and the mechanical advantage it provides. Its design allows for consistent shooting, especially when using sights and other accessories.

What’s a good compound bow to buy?

The best compound bow for you depends on your budget, purpose, and experience level. Some popular brands are Mathews, Hoyt, and PSE, among others. It’s always a good idea to visit a local archery shop to try out a few bows and get professional advice.

How powerful is a compound bow?

Compound bows can be very powerful. Their power is measured in draw weight (how much force it takes to pull the string back). Bows can range from 10 pounds (for kids) up to 70+ pounds for hunting big game. Due to the cam system, even with high draw weights, a shooter might feel only a fraction of that weight when the bow is fully drawn.

Why is compound archery not in the Olympics?

Compound archery hasn’t made its debut in the Olympics for two primary reasons:

Historical Significance: Compound archery, having its origins in the 1960s, is relatively modern. In contrast, recurve archery boasts a lineage spanning centuries. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has typically shown hesitation towards introducing new sports into the Olympic fold. Given its recent inception, compound archery hasn’t yet cemented its status as a mainstream sporting discipline in the eyes of the IOC.

Inclusivity Issues: The cost barrier is more pronounced in compound archery than in recurve, given the advanced and expensive nature of compound equipment. This disparity might hinder athletes from developing nations, presenting them with financial challenges in adopting and excelling in the sport. Ensuring maximum inclusivity is a core principle for the IOC, which they feel might be compromised with the inclusion of compound archery.

Despite these concerns, momentum is building in favor of compound archery’s Olympic inclusion. Spearheading this drive is the World Archery Federation (WA), the authoritative body for the sport. They are ardently advocating for compound archery to be a part of the sporting lineup for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The WA presents a compelling argument that the sport, being both technically demanding and increasingly popular, is on par with recurve archery. Their contention is that compound archery would not only complement but elevate the Olympic roster.

The decision for the 2028 Olympics still hangs in the balance. However, the optimism of the World Archery Federation remains undeterred. They believe that with consistent efforts, they can sway the IOC’s verdict in their favor. A nod from the Olympics would undoubtedly be a landmark achievement for compound archery, paving the way for heightened global recognition and appreciation.

What is the most powerful type of bow?

The “power” of a bow can be subjective and based on different criteria like speed, energy, or draw weight. Compound bows offer high energy efficiency and speed, making them powerful, especially for hunting. However, traditional longbows and some historical bows, like the English longbow or the Mongolian recurve, were renowned for their power in their respective contexts.
