Weatherization Program
WGA’s Weatherization Program is designed to make low-income homes more energy-efficient to create a comfortable, warm, and livable atmosphere. The program provides Energy Efficient Audits, air and draft sealing, duct system and furnace repair or replacement, bath fan replacement, and whole house surge protector. Conservation education and information provided by WGAP helps homeowners reduce their home energy needs, thereby reducing annual heating and cooling bills.
A recent success story illustrates how vital Weatherization Services
can be to members of our communities:
Bill is a cancer patient. Due to his health and low income, he couldn’t make the repairs his home needed. WGAP performed an energy audit, to determine the amount and location of air-infiltration into the home. Then the weatherization crew installed air sealing, insulation, and window replacements, along with energy-saving CFL lighting. The crew also replaced an old inefficient washer and microwave.
During the repair work, the crew noticed that the back wall had begun to separate from the home due to excessive water damage. This was both a health and safety risk for Bill, like water, wind, and small animals occasionally made their way into his home. New plywood, sheetrock, and exterior skirting were installed. With the home sealed, there was no more potential for mold. Bill now enjoys his home without the agony of rain, wind, and critters coming inside. He has the living environment he needs to regain his strength without worrying about what may pour, blow, or scurry through the openings in his walls and floor.
