Welder Tactics and Function

You can create your arc by pushing a rod through the joint. The weld puddle should be slightly larger than a quarter-inch wide.
You should move your rod in half circles as if you were making a crescent moon. As you weld, the arc rods will become shorter. In other words, push down the rod in the workpieces as you continue to melt the puddle.
Until the rods are approximately one inch in length, keep welding until they are no longer than that. Welding slag should be cleaned and observed for penetration and design. Is the moon shape continuously? For a weld to be good-looking, it should resemble this design. Continue welding until you reach the joint by inserting another rod inside the stinger. Observe your welding, then clean the slag. The first time you lay it, no one can do it better than you. To make it stick, you’ll have to practice.
